If we test subjects with a statement about Minnie Mouse, and they bet money on this memory, they are obviously betting on a false memory. If misled subjects are tested with a statement about Minnie Mouse, they are being asked about an item that was never seen, but only suggested.
Notice also that the bets on the "False-novel" memories (three dollars) were significantly lower than the "False-suggested" memories. Examination of the median bets conceals important information that is revealed when one examines the distribution of bets. 2. Notice that the percentage of people who bet the maximum possible amount on these memories was 48 percent. The maximum amount possible (ten dollars) was the modal response on the "False-suggested" memories.
